Cure Kids is an organisation that has for 30 years, funded research into life-threatening childhood illnesses internationally. During this time they have funded world-first breakthroughs into:

• The causes of childhood leukaemia
• Childhood Diabetes
• Childhood Heart Conditions
• Cot death
• Genetic research
• Treatment for hole in the heart blue babies

In Fiji, together with Accor Hospitality and a myriad of wonderful partners we are working to improve the odds for the children of Fiji. Through this partnership Cure Kids Fiji is funding the basic, life-saving medicines and equipment which we believe, are every child’s right. For example:

• A vaccine which costs $150 Fijian dollars can prevent serious illness and save the lives of children suffering from kidney disease. Through Accor’s funding, children are now receiving this medicine.

• Funding shortages mean adult-sized diagnostic equipment is used on even the smallest infants and often crush their tiny fingers, sometimes causing them to lose their hands. Accor has invested $5000 in new, child-specific equipment which will prevent these horrific injuries.

• Information about illnesses, treatments and drugs are critical to diagnosis and treatment. Our funding will also help make modern technology available to medical providers at Lautoka Hospital.

Children are such a precious part of the Fijian culture and lifestyle. Yet sadly, far too many lose their lives to basic illnesses that are both treatable and preventable in other parts of the world.

Of course, there is much more required and as funds allow, Accor will continue to provide the most urgent medicines and equipment.
